PantherLife Academic Mentor
As an Academic Mentor for Project PantherLIFE at FIU I had the responsibility and pleasure to work with a special needs student in the Project PantherLIFE student who attends school at FIU. I aided my assigned student with completing classwork and homework assignments as well as encouraging self-advocacy skills and being part of their support system as a model of behavior. In addition, I also aided the student with university programs including course material, resources available, and assistance with time managements/ organizational skills. Not only was I there for my student in particular I was also there to help any of the other PantherLIFE students that were in need or just needed a friend or someone to spend time with.
Most Valuable Panthers - Events Coordinator
As the Events Coordinator for the Most Valuable Panthers Club at FIU I was in charge of putting on events for the Project PantherLIFE students to take part in alongside fellow FIU students in order to further incorporate them into the FIU community. This gave the students with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to practice social skills and interact with other students.
